So I was so happy to have been told to check this out after walking through the graveyard where some family are buried. tammyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11036426836749199940noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7305522918435483160.post-72504914932798965542015-07-08T11:08:12.368+01:002015-07-08T11:08:12.368+01:00Hi Joe

Glad you had a good time. They are a bit hard to find, we went down the wrong road just south of the correct one for a bit, but the high stone walls running along that road, which often are seen around such ruins, clued me in to drive back that way and we found the correct road. While walking over to them we ran into a local named Phil who was walking his German Shepard named Cesar, and he volunteered to walk us over to the ruins. He knew the details of the abbey as well as any tour guide we've ever had at other sites and greatly enhanced our enjoyment of these truly fascinating ruins. We've been visiting sites like this around Ireland for 9 years now and it never seems to get old.joe gannonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18356734523059529504noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7305522918435483160.post-11781494804616441832015-07-07T15:48:56.289+01:002015-07-07T15:48:56.289+01:00My wife and I just visited these ruins in late Jun...My wife and I just visited these ruins in late June. There is another for the Stafford family in Baltinglass Abbey and one in Old Kilbride graveyard near Arklow. I wonder if this is a freemasonary thing?Castlehunterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11225021319443029751noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7305522918435483160.post-82791145340781708982013-08-26T00:26:52.811+01:002013-08-26T00:26:52.811+01:00Great feature. One point - according to a survey on Historicgraves.com, the pyramid is a vault for the Barker family, the original owners of the Kilcooley Abbey House. The entrance was apparently sealed off in recent years after some unfortunate vandalism. There is a similar pyramid in the churchyard in Kinnitty, Co. We visited a couple of sites that day in April but this was by far the most astounding. Thanks for looking in, hope you enjoy future posts.Castlehunterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11225021319443029751noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7305522918435483160.post-70967282248092973122013-02-16T14:06:59.331+00:002013-02-16T14:06:59.331+00:00Lovely shots. It's a major pity about the restricted access. Back when I was a teenager I had great fun trying to get to the closed off areas. At one stage crawling along the top of that wall in the 17th photo. Ended up getting into one of the restricted parts but couldn't get into the upper floors unfortunately. Still well worth the visit though. Also, great website by the way, keep it up :-)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7305522918435483160.post-85254528357685330212013-02-02T11:14:10.261+00:002013-02-02T11:14:10.261+00:00As Tom has posted definitely on my list now, great...As Tom has posted definitely on my list now, great images and post.
